All you need to do in order to have your audio files transcribed:

record your interview, speech, letters...whatever it may be, on to your digital voice recorder
upload your audio files via our website www.typeout.co.uk
we will email you to confirm receipt of your audio files
one of our highly experienced typists will transcribe your work within the time frame agreed
your transcription will be proofread by another member of the team
your transcript will be emailed back to you

10 tips to record an interview ready for transcription

Here are some useful tips to help you record an interview ready for transcription.

Buy the best quality recording equipment that your budget allows.

Use a new set of batteries or charge the device fully before recording.

Tell the person you are interviewing that you are recording them.

Ensure that you are in a quiet environment if possible.

Try to be as close to the recording device as possible especially if you are in a noisy environment.

Place the recording device on a table half way between the interviewer and interviewee - most microphones on modern dictaphones are omni-directional therefore it does not matter which way the device is pointing too much.

The recording device should not be in a pocket or held - the microphone will pick up the sound of your clothes moving or the movement of your hands and muffle the sound of the recording.

Speak clearly taking into consideration that your work is going to be transcribed.

Ensure that only one person speaks at a time by trying not to talk over each other.

If you are aware that your accent may be difficult to understand speak more slowly than you nomally would.

Uploading files to TypeOut transcription services

The file upload process is very simple and is explained fully on our upload page

but we thought a couple pieces of information may be of use to you:

Internet service providers advertise their download rates far more than their upload rates and you will find that generally speaking uploading files can take 10 times the amount of time it takes to download. This is the same when uploading any file anywhere not just to a transcription service link TypeOut. You will notice it more when uploading to a transcription service because audio files are usually fairly large.

You will notice that we use a file delivery system called YouSendIT to upload files. They use a secure, encrypted and effecient system that means drop outs during uploads are kept to a minimum. They also use 128-bit SSL encryption using Class 3 certificates and Server-Gated Cryptography (SGC) which is very similar to most banks meaning that your files are very secure and ONLY the directors at TypeOUt can see these files.

You may find it useful to use a Ethernet cable connected from your computer directly to your router rather than using WIFI this again will help reduce drop outs during uploads.

If your internet connection appears to be slow especially during peak times you may find it helpful to sending one file at a time.

Please be patient whilst uploading and don't click away.
